= Among most sold or most downloaded last 2 years

= Average Payware price for software = 1715 USD

= Average price for hardware = 2047 USD

= Climbed 5% or more in rating since around a month ago

= Origin country for author/supplier. Defaults to USA in some lists when there is no information

Selection from over 29300 products 
       
      Payware You know what you want and you pay without trying the products. Electronic Download more and more common. Also more common with subscriptions
      Shareware You try the software first and pay only if you like it or if you become addicted. Download
      Freeware You can use the software without paying. Download. More and more common with polite requests for donations or special Professional shareware versions or free only for private use. Do not exclude the possibility that some freeware might be spyware
      Hardware Hardware is normally only entered if it has editors choice from well known computer magazines
      Web site Mostly free but more and more common with monthly or yearly fees. Web sites are normally only entered if they have editors choice in well known computer magazines
       

Every product can belong to one or more of over 90 categories like Mail, Windows, Communication etc.

The rating is based on:

  • Sales
  • Top downloads in wellknown shareware/freeware sites like CNET, ZDNET, PCWorld etc.
  • Editors choices in different well known computer magazines
  • Mentioning of the product in different well known computer magazines
  • Ratings in above all different well known computer magazines.
  • If the product has product information page and if the supplier has a general home page.
  • Age of information. Hardware ages much faster in ratings than any other product. If the product is long time forgotten in magazines and on download sites the rating goes down.
  • Type of OS. If a software is running under DOS only it can be considered almost obsolete except for boot purposes or security like rootkit revealing etc.
  • Reputation of the source of information. E.g. PC Magazine and PC World are rated higher than all other sources of information. My own very rare SoftBase ratings are rated very low in comparizon to all other ratings
  • Low version numbers up until and including version 1.0
  • If a product no longer has support or if it is no longer sold or distributed
  • Some other information available mostly on the Internet

    • The rating is not based on the single category alone that a TOP 100-list belongs to. The TOP 100-lists are not to be taken as an absolute advice but just as a general information giving the reader an idea about what to choose.
